 John P. Gibson
Associate Partner & QA/QC Director, DVA Architects

Mr. Gibson is an Associate Partner and Director of Quality Assurance/Quality Control at Donnally Vujcic Associates in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is a seasoned, hands on professional in the field, and the Quality Assurance and Control Production Manager and Construction Administration Manager. With nearly 40 years experience and technical knowledge in a wide variety of project types and scopes, Mr. Gibson’s contribution to the firm’s work is evident in our clients’ projects and in the continued repetitive working relationships we enjoy with our client base. The involvement that he has in the architectural process for the firm ensures the highest level of professionalism in all aspects of the management of the firm.

Christopher A.J. McDonald
Vice President, DVA Architects

Mr. McDonald has over 25 years of experience in a wide range of project types. His currently Vice President at DVA, and is the director of Mission Critical Operations. His experience includes Master Planning, Space Planning, Base Building Design, Construction Documentation and Construction Administration for commercial, institutional, medical, residential, educational and mission critical facilities throughout the US as well as the United Kingdom. His most recent accomplishments include two mission critical facilities for Roanoke County and Stafford County in Virginia, office renovations totaling over 1 million square feet in Philadelphia and adaptive reuse of over 500,000 square feet of warehouse to office renovations in Maryland.

Gary Yuan, AIA
Director of Design, DVA Architects

Mr. Yuan is a licensed Architect with over 28 years experience in architectural design, planning, and construction over a wide variety of projects. He is responsible for directing and managing the overall firm. His involvement in a project’s initial design process on through to the project’s completion ensures the firm’s highest level of professionalism. The experience Mr. Yuan brings to the firm’s competitions, designs, and project management is greatly influenced by the depth and breadth of his international education combined with a broad range of international work and experience.

Frederick Liwanag, CSI UAP
Director of Residential Design, DVA Architects

Mr. Liwanag has over 24 years of local & international Architecture and Urban Design experience. He is involved in all phases of project design including pre-planning, programming, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and post-occupancy servicing. He has experience in office, residential, commercial, institutional, retail, transit and health and sport facilities. Mr. Liwanag worked in the United States, Asia and Europe with KTGY, URS, WDG, SL&A, RTKL HK/DC/UK, and Don Pan & Associates (HK). Throughout this time he completed work on more than 100 master planning and residential projects.

Rolando Sanz, AIA

With over 40 years of experience, Rolando Sanz is widely regarded as one of the top healthcare facility designers in the United States. Craig Moskowitz, AIA

Craig Moskowitz, a principal of Wilmot Sanz, has dedicated his entire 35 year career to all phases of healthcare facilities planning, design, and construction. He manages project teams that consistently create superior acute care environments while meeting complex functional parameters, limited budgets, and compressed schedules. Craig’s extensive knowledge in programming, planning, and design has been applied to hospitals, destination healthcare campuses, outpatient centers, senior care communities, and many other types of healthcare facilities.

Dwight Fincher, AIA

An award winning designer and a principal with Wilmot Sanz, Dwight Fincher leads the architectural design and planning of many of the firm’s largest healthcare facility master plan and design projects, including major hospital expansions and modernizations, comprehensive campus master plans, and senior care communities. Gregory Chang, AIA, LEED AP

Greg Chang, a Vice President with Wilmot Sanz, has over 22 years of experience in healthcare architecture design and planning. He is a content-knowledge expert specifically for major international medical centers and has worked on many award winning hospitals of various scopes for academic, community, and government sector clients in many countries around the world. Greg is LEED and LEAN SIGMA green belt certified and promotes a collaborative, process-driven approach to a successful project.

Jonathan C. Nehmer, AIA, ISHC
President, Jonathan Nehmer + Associates, Inc.

Mr. Nehmer is an expert in the development, design, and construction of hospitality projects. Mr. Nehmer founded Jonathan Nehmer + Associates, Inc. in 1989 to provide Architecture, Project Management, Design, and Construction Consulting to the hospitality industry. He is also the Managing Principal with HVS Design. A licensed architect in 38 states and the District of Columbia, Mr. Nehmer has more than 35 years of experience as an architect, designer, and owner’s representative for the hospitality industry. Prior to founding Jonathan Nehmer + Associates, Inc., Mr. Nehmer directed the design and construction of real estate development projects for several major hotel chains, including Marriott International and Ramada, Inc.

Warren G. Feldman, AIA
Executive Vice President, Jonathan Nehmer + Associates, Inc.

With more than 25 years of experience, Mr. Feldman’s expertise includes work as Architect and Owner’s Representative in the direction and management of multi-million dollar commercial, institutional, educational, residential, and hospitality projects. Prior to joining Jonathan Nehmer + Associates, Inc., Mr. Feldman has worked on the feasibility, design, and construction of diverse projects including hotels, high rise commercial corporate headquarters, educational facilities, civic projects, and housing development projects. Complementing his education in Architecture, Mr. Feldman completed his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University in December, 1999, and is a member of the Maryland Bar.

Christine M. Shanahan
Managing Director of Design, HVS Design

Ms. Shanahan is an accomplished interior designer with more than twenty years of professional design experience.  As Managing Director of Design at HVS Design, she oversees and manages the design team as well as creates exceptional designs for the firms’ hospitality projects. In addition to hospitality, Ms. Shanahan has extensive experience with commercial, industrial, health care, assisted living, and residential projects. Prior to joining the HVS Design team, Ms. Shanahan was a Project Director for an international hospitality interior design firm. She also founded her own successful full-service interior design firm, Studio East Design. She is NCIDQ, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH).

Inad Bilbeisi
Studio Director, HVS Design

Mr. Bilbeisi is an experienced Architectural Engineer and Project Manager.  As Studio Director, he is responsible for supervising and reviewing the design and construction documents for projects in the hospitality industry, as well as coordinating the work of consultants and engineers, and seeing projects through to completion.  Mr. Bilbeisi’s technical knowledge and attention to detail are valuable assets to the HVS Design team. Before joining HVS Design, Mr. Bilbeisi worked as a Project manager for a hospitality design firm where he coordinated project teams across global offices and participated in aspects of all design phases from concept design through construction administration.  Mr. Bilbeisi received a degree in Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from the University of Jordan.

Elena VanZandt, MEd, MLADC, CPS
Managing Director, HALO Educational Systems

Ms. VanZandt is an accomplished educator with more than twenty years in the counseling and helping profession. She is a recognized international subject matter expert (SME) in alcohol, other drugs, and co-occurring disorders and educational prevention specialist (EDS). As Managing Director at HALO Educational Systems, her team specializes in partnerships of education and mental health professionals to service schools in all facets of operations including: Personnel management and organizational structure, project development, and executing program strategies that improve school environments, while identifying at-risk youth. Aspects of her program management experience consist of: Technology integration; policy development and implementation for public and alternative schools. Ms. VanZandt is expert at identification of neuro development and learning disabilities. She uses her expertise in trauma work with a balanced side of mindfulness training to extend the principles into professional development for educators and community engagement. Recently the HALO Team conducted professional development training seminars for the Naval Special Warfare Development Group. These college accredited seminars focused upon four areas: Communications; new technology; negotiations, and leadership.

Mike McCarthy
President, Riparius Construction, Inc.

Mike McCarthy is the President and owner of Riparius Construction, Inc., a Mid-Atlantic based commercial construction company. Riparius’ notable projects include the 600,000 square foot T. Rowe Price Financial Center in Owings Mills, MD, the W.R. Grace World Headquarters building in Columbia, MD, the Johns Hopkins University Cordish Lacrosse Center, and numerous projects for McCormick & Company in Hunt Valley, MD. Riparius provides construction services to a variety of clients in the office, preconstruction estimating, value analysis, and project management among others. Mr. McCarthy also has extensive experience in real estate development, engineering and telecommunications, having owned and operated successful businesses in these areas. Mr. McCarthy is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Columbia Business School. warehouse, hospitality, retail, educational, automotive and biotechnology industries.

Ken Banks
President, Banks Contracting & Banks Real Estate Development

Ken Banks is a visionary real estate developer, philanthropist, and a leader in mega-scale construction and development in the state of Maryland. As the founder and president of Banks Contracting and Banks Real Estate Development, Mr. Banks has received numerous accolades for his ability to develop strategic partnerships with other large construction firms to successfully complete mega projects in Maryland. Banks was a trendsetting developer and construction contractor on several Baltimore are mega-projects. His passion for philanthropic endeavors is easily recognized through his work in advocacy, charitable giving, mentoring, leadership, and volunteering with many organizations. Ken actively serves on several boards has been recognized for his dedication to the business community and the community at large, receiving numerous awards.

Roger Edmunds
President, RSG and Associates LLC

Roger Edmunds has over 35 years of extensive sales, marketing and business development experience. His key function is to develop and manage relationships with local and international governmental entities, corporations and their respective business communities including market entry, sustainability, financial and concurrency planning. Mr. Edmunds, also functions as a Board Member Advisor to Pizzarotti – IBC, as a Business Development Executive with Moss Cape LLC an Alaska Native American Corporation with SBA “Super 8a Status”. He has recently functioned as the Senior Vice President of Business Development for Golden Tulip Hospitality Group, a global hotel chain, with the responsibly to develop and implement its tactical and strategic market entry plans for North America. He has also held positions as a Vice President of Business Development for Hythiam Inc. to develop a nation-wide network of healthcare, medical and substance abuse professionals and facilities to support and deploy new treatments and procedures, Project Advisor and Analyst to the Philips Electronics Project Center in the Netherlands for multi-discipline (business development /construction /communication) projects, and health care solutions as well as, a principal and Executive Vice President of Sales,   Marketing and Communications for Phyto-Riker Pharmaceuticals which included supply chain management/facilities development and management oversight of their 104 acre facility in West Africa.

Joel Coulter
Business Development Exec, KSI Video

Joel Coulter is a Serial Entrepreneur with over 25 years experience advancing next gen mobile and collaborative enterprise innovations in response to clients’ global education, healthcare, and security needs. After setting up/managing CSC’s Leading Edge Forum offering employees technical and project management training services worldwide with online access to a Technical Information Repository and Tools Awareness Program, he worked for the Koop Foundation to set up and manage a $15M global collaborative healthcare innovation center, enabling public, private and defense healthcare professionals to participate and evaluate next gen telemedicine, emergency care and patient informatics innovations in the lab and in the field. Working with Patty Cook and Dean Kamen he assisted launch the First Robotics program and assisted them set up a collaborate enterprise portal to enable experienced students to assist new students globally in building their robots for upcoming competitions. As a founding member of NDU’s Star-Tides global Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Recovery Program he consulted with the team that put together customized Pre-Positioned Expeditionary Assistance Kits for disaster zones and consulted on the integration of Off Grid ICT, renewable energy/water systems, and small Unmanned Aerial Systems to establish long term disaster recovery capacities. Following 911, Joel joined Jason Barton to launched EchoStorm Worldwide LLC which became a global leader in capturing, sharing, and managing environmental and security video/sensor data from various providers as a web service. He has worked to start up a new company with the EchoStorm team to offer these services in private cloud environments and apply them to the networks, video and sensors that are part of the rapidly growing smart communities with green innovations. To advance the promotion of these capabilities, Joel assisted Dr. Sam Hancock launch Emerald Planet TV that now promotes EcoVillage EcoSystem innovations to over 140 countries. Joel has been a Board Member of the Project Management Institute, AUVSI, and CRDF Foundation, and is currently member of the DVA-Consortium and Council on Global Relations.

M. Atakan Falay

Mr. Falay was born in 1972 and he is a Turkish National with a B.S degree in Civil Engineering from METU, 1994. Mr. Falay, after beginning his career in Russia, came to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a Construction Manager for GAMA Al Moushegah Arabia Ltd. In 1998, and worked in several major industrial projects until he finished Rabigh Cement Factory in 2007 as the Site Manager. Promoted as the Civil Projects in charge, in GAMA Headquarters in Turkey, responsible for K.S.A and Qatar until 2009. Resigned from GAMA and founded AKON YAPI Ltd. in 2009. Currently is Chairman of the Board of Directors for AKON GRUP, and also the General Manager for the Company.

Arda Ataoğlu
Executive Board Member – Commercial, AKON GRUP

Mr. Ataoglu was born in 1974 and he is a Turkish National with a B.S. degree in Materials & Metallurgical Engineering from METU, 1995. Mr. Ataoglu, began his career as a contractor in Turkey, and further joined GAMA Al Moushegah Arabia Ltd. as a QA/QC Engineer, and worked in several positions until he resigned as the Business Development & Proposals Manager and Resident Manager of GAMA Industry Arabia in 2008. Joined Renaissance Construction of Turkey, and established operations in Bahrain and KSA for Renaissance Co. In 2011, he resigned from Renaissance and joined AKON GRUP as Member of the Board of Directors, and Asst. General Manager – Commercial for the Company.

V. Sinan Ergeneman
Executive Board Member – Operations, AKON GRUP

Mr. Ergeneman was born in 1952 and he is a Turkish National with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from METU, 1977. Mr. Ergeneman began his career in General Directorate of State Highways as Civil Engineer in 1977. He started to work for GAMA with Soma Thermal Power Plant project in 1981 and worked in various sites and positions, until he resigned as the Project Director for the Sirte Thermal Power Plant in Libya. He further joined to Diler Holding as the General Manager in charge of overseeing the thermal power plant project in Turkey. He joined AKON GRUP as a Member of the Board and Assistant General Manager- Operations in 2011, where he oversees the worldwide projects of AKON GRUP with his long term experience gained in various sites and countries.

 

N. Volkan Sahin
Country Manager: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, AKON GRUP

Mr. Sahin was born in 1975 and he is a Turkish National with a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from ITU, 2000. He began his career as a Civil Engineer in Turkey and after working in various positions, in 2004 started working in K.S.A. as the Civil Construction Manager for Rabigh Cement Plant works, undertaken by GAMA Al Moushegah Arabia Ltd. In 2008, he left to Turkmenistan from Saudi Arabia, where he worked as the Site Manager for an onshore gas plant. In 2010, he returned back to K.S.A. as the Projects Manager of AKON GRUP sites in the Western Province, where he then was promoted as a partner and the Country Manager for AKON GRUP in 2011.

Karem Onar
Country Manager: Turkey and Northern Iraq, AKON GRUP

Mr. Onar was born in 1975, he is a Turkish National with B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from METU. He began his career in KSA as a technical office engineer for GAMA Al Moushegah Arabia Ltd. Between 1999 and 2007 he worked for various projects. In 2007, he became the project engineer for Enerji-SA Bandırma I CCPP. After this project he worked as a project manager for Ankara-Konya HSR Project with YapıMerkezi. In 2013, he joined AKON GRUP as the Country Manager for Turkey and Northern Iraq.

Ümit Engin
Country Manager: Russia, AKON GRUP

Mr. Engin was born in 1979, he is a Turkish and Russian National with B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from METU. He began his career in KSA as a civil engineer for GAMA Al Moushegah Arabia Ltd. Since 2004 he has been working in CIS region as a project and area manager. He joined AKON GRUP in 2012 as the Country Manager for the CIS.
